Methodology and Disclosures
Last updated: August 2026.
RunwayTreasury exists to do one thing well: help founders and finance teams make good decisions about where to bank and where to hold startup cash. This page explains who writes it, how we reach our conclusions, and exactly how the site makes money. If any of this ever conflicts with putting the right answer in front of you, the right answer wins. That is not a slogan, it is the entire business model.
Who writes this
RunwayTreasury is written by Jesse Wolfe. He has spent 16+ years in data analytics, operational reporting, and reconciliation, the last 8+ on a corporate treasury team, across multiple tech startups in a couple of different verticals. He supports the Treasurer, the finance team, and the CFO from a data and cash-operations angle, in an environment that services billions of dollars of debt, millions of borrower payments, and hundreds of investors across dozens of bank accounts at more than one institution. It is not written by a marketing team and not by a bank.
We are not a bank, not a broker-dealer, not a registered investment adviser, and not affiliated with, owned by, or controlled by any of the providers we cover (Mercury, Brex, Ramp, Rho, or anyone else). We hold no equity in them. We are a publisher.
How we research and rate
- We read the primary source, not the press release. Rates, FDIC and sweep coverage, eligibility, fees, and ownership come from the provider's own disclosures, regulatory filings, and, where relevant, the partner bank behind the product. When a number is volatile (yields and coverage change constantly) we date it and tell you to confirm the live figure before you move money.
- We separate the bank from the product. Many of the "accounts" founders compare are not banks at all, they are fintech platforms sitting on top of one or more partner banks. We say which is which, because it changes what your money is actually protected by.
- We rate by fit, not by payout. Our recommendations are organized by stage and need, not by which provider pays the highest commission. On several pages our honest answer is "you do not need to switch," and we say so even though it earns us nothing.
- We correct the myths the vendor pages rely on. Where the popular comparison content is wrong or conflicted, we show the receipts. That is the reason to read us instead of a landing page with a table.
- We update when the facts change. Acquisitions close, rates move, coverage networks change. When we learn a page is stale, we fix it and re-date it.
How the site makes money
Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. If you open an account through one of them, the provider may pay RunwayTreasury a referral commission or fee. This costs you nothing and does not change the terms you receive.
Here is our hard rule, stated plainly: an affiliate relationship never changes a rating, a ranking, or a recommendation. We recommend the same account to you whether or not it pays us, and on multiple pages we recommend options that pay us nothing (including "stay where you are"). If we ever could not make that promise honestly about a given provider, we would drop the affiliate link before we would soften the analysis.
We disclose affiliate links on every page that contains them, in line with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements.
This is information, not financial advice
RunwayTreasury publishes general information and opinion for founders and finance teams. It is not financial, investment, legal, tax, or accounting advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any specific product or security. We do not know your company's specific situation. Treasury and cash-management decisions carry real risk, including the risk of loss on non-deposit products, and FDIC and SIPC coverage each have specific limits and conditions. Confirm every current figure on the provider's own disclosures, and where the stakes are meaningful, talk to a qualified professional (your CPA, counsel, or a treasury adviser) before acting.
